Question and Answers
Q: What type of Ethernet cable should I have CLV install?
A: Keep in mind that the overall speed of your network is only as good as it's weakest part. In other words, even if you have the best cable available, your network will only operate at the speed of its slowest component or your carrier data circuit. On the other hand, going with the best cable available will future-proof your network, even if you don't need it now. Sooner or later, you will need more bandwidth.
Q: Are there distance limitations to copper cable?
A: Copper Data Cable (Cat 5e, 6, etc.), has a maximum functional distance of 328'. This includes any patch cords you may need at either end of the cable(s). Therefore, the actual cable run length is limited to around 300-315'.
Choosing the right type of cable, based on your current or future bandwidth needs, is very important. Category 5e and 6 cable will both move data at 1G (1000Mbps) speeds. Category 6 cable will handle 10G (10,000Gbps) speeds, up to 180'. Cable distances above 180' will require Category 6A cabling for 10G performance. To ensure proper 10G performance across your network, we recommend installing 100% Category 6A cable to remove any doubt.
For distances above 328,’ you should choose fiber optic cabling.
Q: How long does a typical CLV cabling installation take?
A: Depending on the size of your project, it can take from a couple of hours to several weeks or more.
Q: What is the best time to have an installation completed?
A: It all depends on several factors. If you have an existing office/factory, etc. we can start and finish whenever you are ready. If it is a construction project then many times we install the cabling (called rough-in) then return after ceiling inspections are completed and finish terminated, installing cameras, access points, etc.
Q: How much lead time does CLV need before starting a project.
A: Generally 1-2 weeks, however, if you are in a time crunch and need service immediately, please don't hesitate to ask. We will do our best to meet your schedule, whatever it may be.
Q: Is CLV Insured?
A: Yes, CLV carries $2,000,000 in general liability, $1,000,000 in auto lability and $1,000,000 in workers compensation.
